Let’s look at how ICBC counselling works and what you need to know before seeing one of our ICBC approved Northern Tide Support Services counsellors.
ICBC provides what is called as no-fault benefits. This means that you’re entitled to these benefits no matter who was at fault in the accident. These are also known as “Part 7 Benefits.” these benefits are covered in Part 7 of the Insurance (Vehicle) Act.
As of April 1, 2019, new rules came into place that expanded the coverage one is entitled to after a car accident. These benefits now include counselling among the list of healthcare-related services one can access without delay.
Within the first 12 weeks you can get counselling at your earliest convenience and the counsellor can bill ICBC directly for sessions provided. you are entitled to up to 12 sessions over those first 12 weeks post-accident.

As of May 1, 2025 - ICBC will cover up to $157 per session for those 12 visits. If your counsellor charges more than $157 per session, you will be responsible for any extra cost. If you have extended health insurance through your job or privately, it might cover the difference (See page 3 for counselling fees)
