Are you a victim of a crime?

CVAP offers counselling and other supports to help:

Experiencing a violent crime can deeply impact your emotional, mental, and physical well-being. If you have been harmed—physically or psychologically—as a result of a violent crime in British Columbia, you may be eligible for benefits to support your recovery. Northern Tide Support Services Counsellors are registered with the CVAP program.

  • Victims of crime
  • Immediate family members of victims
  • Certain witnesses


CVAP is available when similar benefits are not already provided by another source.

Session Limits by Claimant Category:

  • Please note that CVAP contributes $135.00 toward each counselling session. If clients have the means, our counsellors gently encourage contributing the difference toward the standard session rate. 
  • Immediate Access: Begin with 12 interim sessions as soon as your CVAP application is received.
  • All sessions available online. 
  • In-person available on a case-by-case basis.

Victim of Crime:


  • Regular Counselling: Up to 48 sessions
  • Counselling for Legal Support (NEW): Up to 24 sessions
     

Immediate Family Member:


  • Regular Counselling: Up to 36 sessions
  • Counselling for Legal Support: Up to 18 sessions
     

Witness:


  • Regular Counselling: Up to 12 sessions

  1. For crisis support and assistance with referral go to VictimlinkBC.
  2. Apply to CVAP through the BC government website.
  3. Once your application is submitted, you can begin your interim sessions immediately (Up to 12 sessions).
  4. We handle all billing directly with CVAP, so you can focus on your healing.

Amendments to CVAP legislation have expanded the support available:


  • Increased counselling rates for services provided on or after January 1, 2024.
  • Updated eligibility criteria and improved access to benefits for crimes occurring on or after January 1, 2024.
